One of the most interesting features of the Saltaire is its unusual solar technology. Instead of placing the solar collector underneath the dial, the Miyota 2070 positions the solar collector around the rehaut/chapter ring. This allows Islander to use a fully opaque dial rather than the partially translucent dials commonly required by solar watches. (Long Island Watch)
The Miyota 2070 provides approximately four months of operation from a full charge and is rated to an accuracy of approximately ±20 seconds per month. It also incorporates an EOL (End-of-Life) indicator: when the stored charge becomes low, the seconds hand begins moving in two-second increments to signal that the watch needs additional exposure to light.
